Games in libraries followup

Following from this previous post

I recieved a response from the State Library of Western Australia basically stating that they do not current provide video games, but public libraries may use their local budget to include video games in their collections. Local libraries can request additions to the collection provided through the State Library. So that represents a potential formal process.

Not much more to report aside from that. However, I feel that I should mention that their response was far more prompt than this post. I’ve just been thinking about what to do.

  1. I’ve got some old games and this is a really really good idea. It’s interesting to think through how one could preserve the games (duplicate the disks out? etc)

From the looks of that response, the best way might be to find a Library that would be interested and see if they want to hold them?

I can check with Libraries that buy stuff from the bookstore – might be a good place to start!

    1. That would be great! Let me know what sort of response you get.

I’m going to talk to my local library. I suspect that a lot of it is going to come down to the personality of the librarian and directives for the local library. I imagine that it could be rather intimidating – trying to decide which consoles and games to get and how to maintain them.

I think that some libraries also had bad experiences with PC software (in the 1980s and 1990s).
