{"id":5304,"date":"2011-06-23T09:52:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-23T01:52:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nick.onetwenty.org\/?p=5304"},"modified":"2011-06-23T10:38:43","modified_gmt":"2011-06-23T02:38:43","slug":"looking-for-collaborators-to-reproduce-please-do-not-enter-in-perth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nick.onetwenty.org\/index.php\/2011\/06\/23\/looking-for-collaborators-to-reproduce-please-do-not-enter-in-perth\/","title":{"rendered":"Looking for collaborators to reproduce &#8220;Please Do Not Enter&#8221; in Perth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Update<\/strong>: Show your support on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Bring-Please-Do-Not-Enter-to-Perth\/133096240104062\">the facebook page<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nI&#8217;m looking for collaborators interesting in helping me reproduce &#8220;Please Do Not Enter&#8221; here in Perth:<\/p>\n<p><iframe width=\"499\" height=\"284\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K2jFs2StW6o\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>For a basic reproduction, I will need:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>A security guard<\/strong>: Amiable and willing to memorise and repeat specified lines<\/li>\n<li><strong>A venue<\/strong>: An exhibition space housing other works with a large empty space<\/li>\n<li><strong>Materials<\/strong>: Packing materials, a yellow bin, a sign, and a rope safety barrier<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For a fully-realised reproduction, in addition to the above I will require:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>A funding partner<\/strong>: Able to cover associated costs <\/li>\n<li><strong>A travel partner<\/strong>: Able to fly participants to Perth from the US<\/li>\n<li><strong>An advertising\/promotional partner<\/strong>: To get behind this project<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8220;Please Do Not Enter&#8221; has been described as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A good comment on the disposable American society.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Absolutely brilliant. There is so much debate about what is &#8212; and isn&#8217;t &#8212; art&#8230; It&#8217;s a conversation between two people on opposite sides of the issue<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Another reaction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Wow. I didn&#8217;t see all that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Given the global impact of exported American culture, I feel that the social commentary made by &#8220;Please Do Not Enter&#8221; is pertinent within a contemporary Western Australian context. Moreover, the piece has a modern cultural reference which will resonate with the general public.<\/p>\n<p>If this project achieves a high level of support, I would like to get the original materials and participants (chiefly the security guard from the original installation at the Smithsonian American Art Museum). I would also like to invite the original artist to comment on their work.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s work together to make this a reality. I only require a few key partners to produce a referential reproduction, but major partners such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dca.wa.gov.au\/\">Department for Culture and the Arts<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pica.org.au\/\">Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qantas.com.au\/\">Qantas<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">Youtube<\/a> could make this happen on an unprecedented scale.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"http:\/\/nick.onetwenty.org\/index.php\/contact\/\">contact me<\/a> directly if you are able to help and would like to get involved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Update: Show your support on the facebook page.
