Just one more picture for my series of visual experiments. This time it’s me, looking all giddy and putting on a cheesy pose:

I reckon there’s both too much and too little detail in this one. I’d probably prefer things to be a bit simpler… with either more obvious depth or no depth at all.

Note: In case anyone is wondering, I made these images in Inkscape. It’s my favourite drawing program – plus, it’s free and open source! πŸ˜€

Update: Fixed portrait size so that it matches the other images.

  1. Haha nice. I like this one best.

The teeth/gums stand out as areas with lots of detail. I did and illustration unit at Curtin with a Vietnamese guy who suggested just drawing the bottom and top contour for teeth, but not the vertical lines (they’re just implied).

    Hair looks pretty great!

  2. Thanks! My hair _is_ pretty awesome I guess – and I wanted to capture that. πŸ˜›

I also usually do the top and bottom thing for teeth. My drawings are generally very minimal and sketchy – but I tried to be more… patient and detailed with these – doing things I normally wouldn’t.

With the first image, I wanted it to be very flat – but I ended up adding a few bits of basic shading. By the time I did this one, I was all up with the shading and colouring actions.

I’m thinking of doing another series with more plain expressions and things painted on the subjects’ faces.
